Around 1910’s, it has been the tradition of the University of the Philippines – Diliman to perform Handel’s Messiah (Christmas portion) by the start of the Christmas season in the university.  However, some traditions must keep up with the modern times, thus having the need for an innovation.

On Dec. 5, 2014, at the UP Theater, a history was made not just in UP Diliman but in the entirety of the Philippine music – Handel’s classic oratorio, the Messiah, was translated in Filipino and played in jazz, in the event Jazz Messiah.

With the motto ”Building a future in which people live and nature thrive,” World Wide Fund Philippines’ latest nexus project aims to conserve natural resources by creating a sustainable environment for future generations.

With the rise of online stores and organizations in University of the Philippines – Diliman selling UP-themed shirts on the Internet, the clothing store Maroons have a lot more competitors aside from the stall beside theirs.

However, Maroons’ owner Michaelangelo Esteves does not bother to make an online version of their store like their competitors do.

She wears a wig, but she has hair. She makes weapons, but she is not a killer. Primarily, she poses to different photographers yet she does not get paid for it. She poses not as herself but as a different persona.

Dressed in a costume while posing at a camera, Kristine Olive B. Caravana-also known as KC to her friends, looks like any other cosplayer (costume player).

What sets her apart from other cosplayers is her advocacy with cosplay – to use it as a door to help other people, especially children.

Philippines’ King of Real Talk Boy Abunda advised students to “stay on the side of truth” in an entertainment reporting forum on January 30.

Abunda, who has been an entertainment reporter for over 20 years, said he considers truth as relative especially in writing for broadcast.

The beaming light of a laptop could always be seen in the cozy room, once Regine Gochuico is there. Regine sits intently in front of her laptop, typing a variety of words on the word document. She was making an article about business and economics in the Philippines. The jargon of the article was made easy-to-understand by Regine.  The article was intended for the children of the Chinese businessmen here in the Philippines, who would be the successors of their parents’ businesses.

Welcome to an online history of the Philippine press. This was conducted as a project for the Journalism 100 class of Prof. Guioguio and done by students of the University of the Philippines: Zeke Areola, Laine Bringuelo, Meeko Camba, Meryll Phae Red Carao, Ma. Niña Pamela Castro, Caselda Cruz, Renee Cuisia, and Marie Ernileth Uy.

Having knowledge on the information around us lets us govern ourselves independently.

Before everything else, there are principles in journalism that must be practiced to obtain the information that would let the people be liberated from ignorance and be able to have complete control over their destinies.
