Bicycle use proposed by reps to lessen traffic
Las Pinas Representative Mark A. Villar aims to address traffic congestion through the House Bill No. 4912, also known as the Bicycle Act of 2014.
“There are a lot of Filipinos who want to use bicycles as a primary means of transportation but are discouraged because of the lack of bicycle lanes. This is understandable of course because it is very risky to ride a bike on a road full of cars, buses, and even trucks,” Villar said in a press release.
Through the bill, Villar aims for Filipinos to have a “cheaper and healthier” means of transportation while lessening the air pollution.
Villar’s bill also contains the responsibilities of a cyclist to keep them safe in the road. The bill tasks Local Bikeway Office to provide the rules and regulations.
He added that there is a need to regulate the cyclists to ensure their safety, because the creation of bicycle lanes may increase the number of cyclists.
Aside from creating a healthier and economical alternative Villar said that the bicycle lanes could lessen the “Traffic Armageddon.”
